At first it may not be obvious but this astonishing artwork is not quite what it seems. Take a closer look, for what you are seeing is an amazing exercise in patience - because this flower has not been painted - it is a work of collage! And what a work, not just a few snips and cuts for its creator Mary Delaney, but a multitude. Each play of light, each stamen, each vein etc. etc. being cut from a separate strip of colored paper to create a botanical masterpiece. Indeed you may well wonder how on earth can anyone have the time and patience to do such work especially when they take it on at the tender age of 72!
