Hortus Eysttensis c. 1600

In the early 17th century the Prince-Bishop of Eichstatt in Germany created a splendid garden, the first to contain all the shrubs and flowering plants known at the time. When finished he commissioned a fantastic picture book of the plants Hortus Eysttensis, which was published by botanist-apothecary Basilius Besler. Each tablet is hand-made to replicate the look and feel of of the period, the methods used to do so are as accurate as possible.
